Hazel is a cradle Episcopalian baptized at St. Mark’s in Lagrange, GA. During the 1960s, with the guidance of her parish, she began to understand that we are all God’s beloved. Living into our baptismal promises to seek and serve Christ in all persons, to love our neighbor, to strive for justice and peace, and to respect the dignity of every human being is a vital part of her journey. Hazel is an aspiring artist, a contemplative extrovert, trained in spiritual direction, and active in diocesan ministries. Two recent life changing experiences for her have been walking three hundred miles on the Camino de Santiago with her daughter and a Lilly Funded Sabbatical to Florence, Italy and Bayeux, France. Hazel is the mother of three grown children and grandmother of three granddaughters.

Since her 1993 graduation from The School of Theology in Sewanee and subsequent ordination, Hazel has had the privilege of serving in several parishes in the Diocese of Atlanta. Just prior to joining St. Paul’s, she was St. Margaret’s rector for more than fourteen years. During her time in Carrollton, the parish’s outreach ministry became a model program and training center for the city, community, and diocese. Priesthood is Hazel’s second career; previously she had been an accounting professor before she realized she could not ignore the call to pursue ordination.
