Our Church

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church warmly embraces the idea of inclusivity and diversity. Every week, we come together with one purpose: to worship and honor God. Our History

1896: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church was built on Wesley Street and consecrated by Bishop C. K. Nelson. However, the congregation was dissolved in the early 1900s.

1954: Several families from Coweta County approached Bishop Randolph Claiborne with the desire to reestablish an Episcopal church in Newnan. Bishop Claiborne agreed and established a mission, led spiritually by Rev. Martin Dewey Gable, the vicar of St. Margaret’s Church in Carrollton, Georgia. Initially, the church met at a local radio station until a proper church building could be constructed.

1961: A location on Roscoe Road, previously owned by the Brewster family, was secured. The inaugural services in the new church building took place on Easter Sunday.

1976: St. Paul’s became an independent parish through a decision by the Diocesan Council.

1984: Responding to the continued growth of the parish, a new nave and parish hall were constructed. The first services in the new nave were held on Easter Sunday.

1999: Under the leadership of Rev. J. Russell Kendrick, St. Paul’s experienced another phase of growth. The congregation initiated plans for a larger worship space.

2003: The Right Reverend J. Neil Alexander, Bishop of Atlanta, consecrated our present church space.

2006: The Christian Education wing was renovated and the Undercroft was completed, providing expanded office and meeting spaces.

2015: Led by Rev. Allan Sandlin, St. Paul’s Newnan achieved a significant milestone by retiring its entire construction debt and gaining full ownership of its buildings.

2019: Following her service as St. Paul’s interim priest and priest-in-charge from 2016 to 2018, Rev. Hazel Smith Glover became rector. Under her guidance, the congregation embarked on planning for the future. A generous donation enabled the church to renovate the Children’s Wing and consecrate a new Children’s Chapel with Bishop Robert C. Wright officiating.

2021: Thanks to a transformative donation and numerous contributions, St. Paul’s constructed new gathering spaces, meeting rooms, a hospitality foyer, walkway, porte-cochere, playground, and renovated the kitchen and parish hall. These spaces were dedicated by Bishop Robert C. Wright.

2023: Following the retirement of Rev. Hazel Smith Glover, The Rev. Canon C. John Thompson-Quartey became St. Paul’s Interim Rector, guiding the congregation through the process of selecting its next permanent rector.
